Ireland, 1968. The town of Coolbeg is throwing the party of the decade—a celebration of their new hydroelectric dam and the Tennessee, the greatest ballroom of romance in Ireland. But Calamity Kitty, a once-beloved Englishwoman living in the town, says the local river will run backwards and drown them all. And young Caoilte O'Súilleabháin is desperate to escape to London before the weekend ends. Meanwhile, the people of Coolbeg just want to celebrate.
Set This Town Alight portrays a colourful, gossipy, clued-in town where the locals are mad for music, both local and foreign, tuned into technology and to each other - at a dizzying array of frequencies. It showcases small town Ireland as having a swinging sixties all of its own while technological advance, environmental ruin, and groovy dancing rage all around.
