A consideration of the trajectory of French theory across a number of para-academic sites in Britain: the New Left Review, the British Film Institute, the Institute of Contemporary Arts and the popular music press - the latter with a specific focus upon the work of Scritti Politti. 

As Britain dissociates politically and intellectually itself from Europe, the thesis asks urgent questions around Britain’s relationship to theory, foreign ideas, and contemporary culture.
